I am very excited to have been selected as the principal of the Somerset Academy of Las Vegas Emerson Campus.  It is very exciting to have the opportunity to open a new building with a new staff of highly motivated, dedicated, and collaborative life-long learners.  It is a great time for a quality charter school to open its doors in Las Vegas and offer the children in this city an opportunity to learn in a positive, fun, thought provoking environment.  As we build our school community, we know that it will take all stakeholders to create a successful learning environment.  Students, teachers, parents and the community must be heavily vested into each child at the Emerson campus.

I have been in education in Las Vegas for 17 years.  I have taught elementary school and was a technology specialist for students from Pre-K to 5th Grade.  During my time as an administrator, I have been at the elementary and high school levels.  I know first-hand the road our students travel from Pre-K through high school.  As we strive for excellence, I understand the inspired leadership along with a clearly communicated vision and teachers who are willing to do whatever it takes for the benefit and success of children is a recipe for success.  I am excited about the dynamic staff that has been hired at the Somerset Academy of Las Vegas Emerson Campus.  A driving force behind the success of the school will be a collaborative nature – all of us willing to work together, learn together, and share ideas and strategies.  The team concept is the foundation of our beliefs at Emerson.   There are no individuals, but a strong team of people dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing, highly engaging, learning environment that will challenge students, as well as provide stimulating learning activities.

As a member of sports teams from a young age, I understand that no one person is bigger than the team.  As an All-American Wide Receiver from Madison High School in San Diego and a ninth round draft pick by the New York Yankees, I know that hard work along with talent can create positive and powerful results.  I moved from San Diego, California to Las Vegas, Nevada to attend UNLV on a football scholarship.  I also played center field on the UNLV baseball team.  After my football and baseball days in college I was again drafted in the ninth round by the San Diego Padres organization.  The experiences I had playing major college sports and competing in professional baseball has prepared me to succeed in any environment.  I graduated from UNLV with a bachelor’s of science degree in Elementary Education.  I earned my master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix.

I have a wonderful family that I lean on to get me through any obstacle.  My wife Bethany is a Math Specialist in the Clark County School District and a turn-around team member where she assists and coaches CCSD teachers in improving their instruction.  I have three beautiful children – Anthony 16, Kera 12, and Bailey 4 months.  In our free time we enjoy watching or attending football and baseball games at all levels, especially the Padres, Chargers and the UNLV Rebels.  We are a sports oriented family and enjoy spending time together challenging each other in many types of games.  We love to take family trips to San Diego and Washington to visit family and friends.

I look forward to meeting you and your child.  Together we will make a positive impact in the lives of our students.  Welcome to the Somerset Academy of Las Vegas Emerson Campus Sharks’ team.

Hello and welcome to our Shark family!

My name is Emeri Rodriguez, and I am the Assistant Principal at Somerset Academy Emerson. I was born in Burbank, California. At the age of 16, I moved to Southwest Florida where I attended high school. In 1996, I moved to Las Vegas. I earned my teaching degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). After graduation, I relocated to Victorville, California to pursue my teaching career. I was a third grade teacher in various Title 1 schools and mentored new teachers.  In 2007, I found my way back to Las Vegas where I taught 4th grade at the Alexander Dawson School at Rainbow Mountain. I've been working with Mr. Farmer for the past 2 years as an educator and now as his assistant principal. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, snowboarding, listening to music, cooking; basically anything that requires me to be active and spend quality time with loved ones.  I am truly excited about being a part of the Somerset Academy Emerson Shark family! I look forward to meeting you and working together to make our children feel successful and become life long learners.
